Guest Lectures 2022-23
Guest Lecture by Alumna Shruti Nimkar on Studying Abroad (2022-23)
Shruti Nimkar began her talk by discussing FAQs or frequently asked questions like: what documents are required to go abroad; what are the various Masters programmes available; how long are the courses; what do they cost etc.? She went on to talk about how to write a statement of purpose, the importance of good marks and extra-curricular activities. She mentioned some of the things she had done like national level roller skating, MILE courses, a disability course and Indian Classical singing. She also stressed the importance of contributing to college activities like sanctuary and social outreach. This was followed by an active question and answer session where students asked if she was afraid and how she coped with the stress. Shruti’s concluding lines were that despite various setbacks in her heart she knew that she “deserved” this experience and she encouraged the students to strive hard and achieve their dreams.
She was joined by her class mate Ummesalema Karu who shared her experience of applying for the Tata Grant on the 1947 Partition Archives and how she was selected nationally and was one of about 12 students selected. The others were from Delhi University and Jadavpur so it really was a feather in her cap. The overall message was to have the courage to try and not to underestimate one’s abilities. The session was both rewarding and motivating and concluded with the alumni sharing their contact details in case anyone had further queries. The session was held on Tuesday 30th August 2022in Room 302 from12pm to 12.50 pm
