Celebration of ‘Reading Day’ on 18th June 2022
St Mira’s College for Girls celebrated ‘Reading Day’ on 18th June 2022, on Google Meet to mark the annual Remembrance Day of late Shri P N Panicker- the father of the ‘Library and Literacy Movement’ in Kerala. The programme was attended by 46 students, faculty and staff.
Significance of the day was provided by the Librarian and every participanttook the ‘Reading Day Pledge’. The message of which is to promote the development of the country through the judicious reading of knowledge resources in print and digital media.
Dr Soniya Chavan, Ex- HOD of Economics and Ex-COE-St Mira’s College for Girls, delivered atalk on ‘The Significance of Reading”. She began her talk by thanking and remembering our founder as an avid reader. Dr Soniya’s talk infused with apt quotesenlightened the audience with benefits of reading: positivity, relaxation, better understanding, stimulating the grey cells, enhancement in imagination, general knowledge, memory, vocabulary, concentration, writing & communication skills and pronunciation.Her talk also included ‘hard to put down’ books byDaniel Steel, Chetan Bhagat and Ayn Rand among others.A total of 11 students presented talks on their favourite Books, Speeches and Articles.The event was coordinated by Mrs -Devinder Kaur-Librarian.
