A Speaker Session by Harinder Sikka: Discussion on “Vichhoda” (A. Y. 2023-24)
Read Plus Club in association with Adventures of the Literati on 21st Oct 2023, organised a captivating speaker session which featured the renowned author, Mr Harinder Sikka. The session centred around Harinder Sikka’s latest novel, "Vichhoda… in the Shadow of Longing." Mr Sikka explained the strength, courage and resilience that lies within a woman by sharing with audience, the story of Bibi Amrit Kaur, the protagonist who faced tragic events during Partition which tore her apart. The speaker emphasised on the fact that girls should fortify their lives with the belief that Bibi shared with him, “God residing in her is bigger than any enemy outside”. The author strongly urged every woman to recognise such a power present within them. He shared his learnings from the teachings of Guru Nank that women should not be demeaned because everyone is born of a woman except God. Women are much more superior than men and can perform jobs requiring abundant courage and strength provided one’s thoughts are positive and clean. He recognised the crucial role played by an educated woman in raising a quality family. The author announced a scholarship of Rs 51000/- to a student named Divya Asnani for giving the correct answer- ‘Thoughts are the most fertile land”. A total of 146 students and staff attended the session. Event was coordinated by Devinder Kaur-Librarian.
