How to consult books and Journals? (A. Y. 2023-24)
The College Library organised a session for students on ‘How to consult books and Journals?’, for students The session was conducted on 9 th August 2023 in the periodical section of the 1 st Floor Library. The objective of the session was to enhance students’ awareness of the format and arrangement of information in the learning resources. Students were informed on how to check the availability of books by searching in the Online Catalogue, the link to which is provided on the library webpage. Books were shown to them and they were guided on how to look for the publisher when looking for scholarly resources. Parts of the books which were explained to them included- Table of Contents to check the scope of the books, footnotes, chart and illustrations and their usage in assignments and projects, references and use of index to find the information pin-pointedly. Next part of the session included demonstration of journals under which titles like- Electronics For You, Yojana, titles of Sage Publication Ltd. EPW, Journal of Marketing, etc. Description provided covered- characteristics of journals, format of the articles, articles authored by subject experts and research based contents. Students were provided information on references and different referencing styles which they could use in their assignments and projects. A total of 18 students from TY Computer Science attended the session. Mrs Devinder Kaur-Librarian was the resources person for the session.
