Career Guidance: MBA as a career option

On 30th January 2024, St. Mira's College for Girls in Pune hosted a session on the career prospects of pursuing an MBA. The event featured esteemed speakers, Directors of T.I.M.E, Mr. Rahul Mahabir, and Mr. Rahul Gupta, drawing an audience of 167 students to the AV Room. The session commenced with a broad exploration of career options, spanning various fields and areas across different academic streams. Emphasis was placed on the crucial role of decision-making in career planning, followed by an insightful discussion on the importance of mathematics in aptitude tests for MBA entrance. The speakers engaged the audience in evaluating decision-making parameters based on real-life incidents and the correctness of choices. Further, they delved into BBA options as a foundation for pursuing an MBA, considering scenarios for freshers, individuals with working experience, and the introduction of new programs. The visionary aspect of success was discussed through perspectives from Swami Vivekanand and Ambani, highlighting the individual's pivotal role in success and failure. The session also touched upon mindset and success, distinguishing between "Chinta" (worry) and "Chitam" (mind), emphasizing the positive mindset required for achievement. Fear was identified as the root cause of failure. Practical advice on MBA preparation and skills was provided, focusing on the general MBA course structure, management skills, and the importance of identifying personal strengths rather than pursuing MBA solely for lucrative placements and packages. The speakers introduced the significance of the Written Ability Test (WAT) in MBA admissions, shedding light on major MBA entrance exams such as CAT, CET, XAT, SNAP, among others. A crucial takeaway was the clarification on the importance of percentiles over percentages in these entrance exams. In conclusion, the session offered valuable insights to guide students on informed and strategic decision-making for their future careers.
