Symposium on “Value-based Education in the context of NEP 2020” – The Mulya Pravah Committee (2023-24))
St. Mira’s College for Girls, in coordination with the Department of Education, SPPU and Sadhu Vaswani Institute of Management Studies organised a symposium on “Value-based Education in the context of NEP 2020” on 29 th January 2024, commemorating the 90 th year of Mira movement in value-based education. Dr. Parag Kalkar, Pro-VC, SPPU, in his opening remarks emphasized the need for building an eco-system for value education. Didi Krishna Kumari, Executive Head, Sadhu Vaswani Mission, in her inaugural address, highlighted the role of teachers as catalysts in helping students face the challenging environment posed by technological advancements. Dr. Bhagwanti Nanwani, Director, Sadhu Vaswani Institute of Management Studies, in her presentation on “Successful Integration of Value-based Education: Inputs from the Mira Model of Education”, brought to the fore the focal constituent of this model-Sadhu Vaswani, a trail blazer who envisioned a value-based education in the beginning of 19 th century. A Panel Discussion on “The Way Forward-Navigating the Challenges and Solutions in implementation of Value-based Education in the context of NEP 2020”, moderated by Dr. Manju Nichani, Rector Sadhu Vaswani Institutes of Learning, saw eminent panelists comprising of Dr. Geeta Shinde, Head, Department of Education and Extension, SPPU, Mr. Anwar Rajan, Trustee/Secretary Gandhi Bhawan and Dr. Gargee Mitra, Head, Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate. They emphasized on integration of core values in the curriculum, imperativeness of the value “walk the talk”, especially for teachers as role models, and transition from transactional citizenship to transformational leadership, respectively. The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks to all the resource persons and dignitaries.
