Workshop on The Implementation of NEP
Tuesday, 12 th December 2023; Thursday 21 st December 2023

The NEP committee of St. Mira’s College, Pune organised a workshop on ‘The Implementation of NEP’ on 12 th and 21 st December 2023. Dr. Basant Ahuja, Working Chairperson- Sadhu Vaswani Mission graced the occasion as the resource person. Dr Ahuja expressed gratitude to the organising team and asked the teachers to share their opinion about the NEP. He stressed three things that will bring academic excellence to any institution - right curriculum, groomed faculty and students. Dr Ahuja discussed many aspects of education such as the importance of explaining teaching plans to the students, maintaining a continuous evaluation system with 30:70, 70:30 and 50:50 patterns; absolute and relative grading, liberal learning, multiple entry and exit, multidisciplinary minors, etc. He also emphasized the importance of faculty skill upgradation and improvement and bringing research into the classroom. Dr Ahuja emphasised that teamwork, uniqueness of every department in offering courses, mandatory summer internships, etc. will play important role under the NEP.
Dr Ahuja also focused on the goals of higher education, role of a teacher, requirements at HEIs. In his opinion, academic ambience and good infrastructure; flexible curriculum, strong industry connections, attractive UG, PG and research programmes, student-centric teaching and learning processes, learning outcomes satisfying employer needs are the indicators of an excellent HEI along with academia-industry collaborative teaching, where academicians/ teachers will take the responsibility of teaching theory and the onus of teaching the application by taking up case studies will be on the industry experts. The session was well-attended and the guidance and expertise offered was well received.
