St. Mira’s College Alumni Meet 2020-21
The first virtual Alumni Meet of St. Mira’s College was organised onInternational Women’s Day, the 8th of March 2021. The St. Mira’s College Alumni Association proposed a Felicitation Ceremony to honour the journey of the three stalwarts of St. Mira’s, Dr. Gulshan Gidwani, Principal, Mrs. Stella Ambrose, Coordinator Unaided Section and Dr. Soniya Chavan, HOD Economics. The virtual Alumni Meet was cheerfully graced by the Sadhu Vaswani Mission Board Members, Faculty members past and present and Alumnae. The Meet was presided over by the dynamic President of the Alumni Association, Mrs. Kashmira Parekh. Ms. Aradhana, an alumna, garlanded the event with her beautiful rendition of ae malik tere bande hum. As the three women of substance rose to share their long and beautiful journey with St. Mira’s, the audience got a glimpse of their humility, simplicity and benevolenceembroidered with grit and perfection. The Board Members also enthralled us with their words of wisdom. Krishna Didi, an epitome of goodness, mesmerized the audience with loving and caring words and a simple parable thatreminded us of our beloved Dada. Dr. Manju Nichani showered immense love and warmth through her words of praise. Dr. Bhagwanti Nanwani, magnetic as ever, regaled the audience with her perfect characterization of the three stalwarts.The housewas stirred by the emotivewords of Dr. Shalini Iyer andher selfless journey with these three icons. The Meet also witnessed rich and heartfelt tributes by other faculty colleagues and alumnae.It was concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Asha Panicker, the Vice President, St. Mira’s College Alumni Association. This special event brought together many generations of Miraites. It evoked a strong sense of camaraderie and nostalgia that will bind us all for many years to come.
Alumni Association -WEBINAR
St. Mira’s College Alumni Association took the initiative of organizing a Webinar on 17th June 2020, titled ‘Entrepreneurship For Tomorrow’ for the fellow college students. The President of Alumni Association, Ms. Kashmira Parekh along with the Assistant Professors Dr. Dimple Buche and Ms. Smita Borkar hosted the wonderful event. The three esteemed alumni speakers presiding the webinar were Dr. Sunita Adhav, Principal of Modern Law College, Pune; Ms. Kirti Jaiswal, HR Project Manager Vmware Bangalore; and Ms. Mihika Bhanot, International Image Consultant and Entrepreneur.
Dr. Sunita Adhav gave an insight into the various careers in Law, suggested new avenues like legal entrepreneurship and encouraged the students to remain optimistic amidst the prevailing Corona pandemic.
Ms. Kirti Jaiswal emphasized on the importance of a LinkedIn profile, internship, and a master’s degree. She also updated participants on the six steps of facing an interview.
Ms. Mihika Bhanot expressed the value of soft skills and time management in career building, especially in the new normal. She shared her experience on how perception can bring in transformation, personal growth and success.
The webinar was possible with the support of the chief patron, Dr. Gulshan Gidwani and the technical support of our alumni, Deepa Naidu.
The online platform used for the webinar was Cisco Webex.
REPORT ON DANCE SHOW BY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
St. Mira’s CollegeAlumni Association in collaboration with Artsphere, Pune, organized a dance show titled DANCE FOR RELIEF on 30th May 2021 for reaching out to the students adversely affected by Covid-19. The show was telecast live on both ZOOM and YouTube. The dance performance included some of the best talents of Pune: Shambhavi's International School of Kathak (SISK), Rama Kuknur, a senior disciple of Smt. Sucheta Chapekar and Akshata Parekh, Mugdha Shivapurkar and Karishma Harlalka from Artsphere. The programme was presided over by an eminent alumna, Anubha Doshi, Founder-Director, Soulsphere, Psychologist, Mindfulness-Based Facilitator, Arts-Based Therapist, Dancer & Reiki Practitioner. The Chief Patron of Alumni Association, Dr. Gulshan Gidwani, Principal-in-charge, St. Mira’s College, Dr. Jaya Rajagopalan and Mrs. Kashmira Parekh, President, Alumni Association expressed their gratitude for the noble fundraiser endeavour. Dance for Reliefhas been able to collect adequate funds to lend a helping hand to the COVID impacted Miraites.
Alumni Association Social Outreach Initiative
On 29th October 2020, the St. Mira’s College Alumni Association undertook a noble initiative under the Social Outreach Programme to donate a handsome amount of Rs. 22,000 to Ms. Ashlesha Onawale, the Director of Deep Griha Society. Founded by a medical practitioner Dr. Neela Onawale and her husband Rev Bhaskar Onawale in 1975, Deep Griha Society is an independent charitable organisation working to better the lives of low-income, informal communities in Pune. St. Mira’s College, following the footsteps of the Great Saint, Revered Dada T. L. Vaswani, has signed an MoU with the NGO to be an associate with their welfare programmes encompassing education, healthcare, child development and women’s empowerment. The Association members donated generously while the students of St. Mira’s assisted in various activities like educational coaching, workshops, arranging picnics for the children. The fund has helped Deep Griha Society render critical service to the needy amidst the pandemic. They helped overcome the challenges faced by families losing jobs, supplying books and mobiles to children for their online courses.
Alumni Meet 2020
The St. Mira’s College Alumni Meet 2020 experienced the indomitable spirit of the Miraites as the past met the present on 29 th February 2020. The Meet unfurled the milestones reached through the Annual Report presented by Mrs. Kashmira Parekh, the Alumni Association President. The cultural extravaganza organized by the students, the Miss Alumni Contest and the felicitation of eminent Alumni adorned this year’s Meet. The Alumni contest was won by Ms. Kavita Desarda (1973 batch), Ms. Ashwini Motadu (2005 batch) and Afreen Sabooni (2019 batch). The Association proudly felicitated the Shiv Chatrapati Awardees, Ms. Gurbans Kaur and Ms. Aparna Prabhudesai as distinguished alumni. It also honoured the invaluable contribution of Ms. Rama Balakrishnan, Ms. Dolly Pundol and Ms. Indra Parwani towards their alma mater.
Alumni Connect ...
Under the initiative “Know Your Alumni”, the Department of Computer Science invited Ms. Prerans Polekar one of our prestigious alumni of Batch 2009-10 for an interactive session with the students on 25 th Jan 2020. Ms. Polekar is currently working with ‘Accenture’ as a Application Development Lead. She shared her experience during her college days and guided the students on the career prospective. She also shared the 10 motivational things she has learned in her journey at college and at work. It was an interactive and happy event of meeting ones ‘senior’ and the students had many queries of their own on studies, career and many other things.
Ms. AparnaPrabhudesai, our alumnus from the B.Com, 1990 batch was the Chief Guest for the Annual Sports Day Celebrationson 19th December 2019.
Ms. Prabhudesai is an athlete who has run more than thirty half marathons and half a dozen full marathons. She is first woman from the State of Maharashtra to have summitedthe Mount Everest from the North side and holds the distinction of being India's oldest woman on Mount Everest.
Ms. Prabhudesai, expressed her gratitude toher alma materfor her success. The students cheered as she shared memories of her college days and her journey to a successful life amidst all challenges.
Alumni Connect ...
Rupal S.Gesota, our alumnus of 1995, BA-Eco, conducted a compulsory credit course on Yoga for the Post-Graduate students of our college across all streams.Ms. Gesota, on completing her Yoga Therapist course from the SKY Institute, Pune is working as Yoga Teacher cum Therapist since 2013.
The students immensely benefitted from the yoga training and practical sessions by Ms. Gesota.
