Department of Physical Education - 8th International Yoga Day, 21st June 2022
The 8th International Yoga Day was celebrated by St. Mira's College for Girl's, Punein the hybrid mode both offline and virtually due to the Covid- 19 pandemic. To create awareness of yoga among the students and staff, the Department of Physical Education had organised a practical Sessionalong with the demonstration of Yoga pyramids by students.A total of 189 students and 58 staff members actively participated offline on the college campus and via the Google Meet platform. This year the theme of Yoga Day was "Yoga for Humanity",considering the importance of yoga and how it benefited the masses and keeping them safe and healthy during the outbreak of the Corona virus.Yogaimproves the immune system, strength, balance, flexibility and coordination which help inboth physical and mental wellbeing.
The program was started with a brief introduction to Yoga and its importance in day-to-day life given by Mrs. Suvarna Deolankar, sports teacher and Vice-Principal of Junior College,followed by the demonstration of Yoga Pyramids and the practical session which was conducted by the Director of Physical Education, Mrs. Ekta Jadhav. It included prayer, different Yoga postures such as SukshmaVyayama, Suryanamaskar, Tadasana, Vrukshasana, Padahastasana, ArdhaChakrasana, Bhadrasana, ArdhaUshtrasana, Vajrasana, Shashankasan, Pawanmuktasana, Setubandhasana, AnulomViloma Pranayam, Bhramari Pranayam, Meditation and Omkar ended witha Pledge. The protocol for the program given by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, was strictly adhere to.
