Webinar on Post COVID Job Scenario and Interview Skills

On 26th June 2020, students of St. Mira’s college were offered an opportunity to address one of the major roadblocks that they were facing in their career due to COVID-19, through a webinar on “Post COVID Job Scenario and Interview Skills”

The webinar was conducted in collaboration with PIBM (Pune Institute of Business Management), by Mr. Parijat Pushp, Talent acquisition head - Mahindra insurance Brokers limited), and Mr. Ramanpreet (Chairman –PIBM) The aim of the webinar was equipping students with modern ways of presenting themselves and their resume for interviews. Mr. Pushp and Mr. Ramanpreet gave several insights on changing requirements in today’s scenario. The students were guided on the pathways to achieve the right kind of value addition to their profile.

They also highlighted the need of being aware of current affairs, knowing the game changers and encouraged the students to enhance their knowledge through reading. They emphasized the importance of JD in an interview process and knowledge of company details.

This informative session imparted wisdom which enabled the students to evaluate their understanding of interview skills and improving their strategy for job interviews. The webinar was successful in educating the students on the formation of a strong base in the career of their choice. More than 250 students of all streams of TY and PG courses attended the session through the Zoom platform for two hours. This interactive session was helpful to students to chart their career path, not only in ways to move forward with a strong focus on their career but also gave them the motivation to look at challenging times like these with positivity.


St. Mira’s College has an active Placement Cell. The cell facilitates as a coordinating body between the industry and students. The raison d'être of our institution is to assist our students in achieving their dreams of successful careers in a challenging and ever-diversifying industry.

The Placement Cell enables students to explore the world of employment and new career avenues. It also helps students in career planning through counseling wherein they hone their strengths in terms of their interests, aptitudes, and abilities so that they can choose their career more effectively.

The focus of the Placement Cell is also on the professional development by training them in employability skills such as resume building, group discussion, and interview skills which in turn helps the students to move into the desired occupation and/or apply to prestigious postgraduate and professional schools.

The Placement Cell takes the initiative to explore new career avenues for graduates and postgraduates through visits to new companies and unexplored sectors. Campus recruitments are rigorously organized every year.

Pre-placement activities as well as Placement Internships are arranged for students. The selection process generally starts with a pre-placement talk to give insights into the company profile, job profile, career path, CTC etc. This is followed by the actual selection process i.e. written tests, group discussions, interviews etc.

Placement and Career Counseling Cell Activities - 2017

The Placement Cell of St. Mira’s College has been actively involved in bringing about a match between the requirements of various companies and the students’ interests, their abilities and potentials.

The success of the Placement Cell lies in placing the right candidates, in the right jobs, at the right time.

The first half of the academic year had many orientations, on-campus and off-campus placement drives.

Guest Lectures and Orientations

  • The Teach for India Fellowship Program is an opportunity for the youth to serve as full-time teachers to children from low-income communities in some of the nation’s most under-resourced schools. The placement cell in collaboration with the Department of English had organized an orientation on 7th August 2017for the students across all streams.
  • Edwise Overseas Education Consultants providessolutions for all international study needs. An orientation was organized on 12th September 2017 for the students across all streams where students of BA, BCom and BBA participated. 3 students, 1 from BCom and 2 from BA got an opportunity to participate in the Deakin interactive week to acquirea full scholarship for higher education at Deakin University, Australia. One of the students got selected for the 2nd round to be conducted in Delhi in June 2018.
  • The Naandi Foundation – Mahindra Pride School Skilling Project was introduced in St. Mira’s College for BBA, BCA, and B.Sc. (CS) students. Students participated in a soft skill training program with them.

Placement and Internship Drive

  • Intelligence Plus Pvt. Ltd. is an educational institute which offers internship programs and placement to graduates and undergraduates. Two of our SYBA and four of our BBA students got selected for the internship.
  • Just Being Centre provides mindfulness-based therapies. It offers internship programs and placement to graduates and undergraduates. Four of our students got selected for the internship out of which one student was offered a full-time job post completion of the TYBA examination.
  • Centre for Mental Health Services in collaboration with Teach for India, provides training and internship programs to graduate and undergraduate students. 12 SYBA students and 4 TYBA students got selected for the same.
  • Aninternship program was introduced for BA(History) and B.SC.(CS) students by the company Tick-links.
  • Placement drives of L&T Infotech,Mphasis,Deloitte, Cognizant,Syntel,and Adweb Software were conducted on-campus and off-campus.

IBM Pre Placement Session

St Mira’s College for Girls organized a virtual preplacement session by IBM Bangalore on 11th March 2021 for students who graduated in 2020. Ms. Preethi Thomas (Principal Talent Acquisition) and Ms. Jenifer Shilpa Pinto (HR Representative) gave a brief introduction about IBM. They explained the job profile for Analyst Risk and Compliance, the interview process, followed by a brief introduction of students. In total, 35 students attended the session.

Placement Cell Virtual Event- ‘United Nations Young Changemakers Conclave'

A virtual soft skill event ‘United Nations Young Changemakers Conclave' hosted by the United Nations and X Billion Labs was conducted by the Placement Cell on 20th February2021 from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Approximately 190 students from St. Mira’s College for Girls participated in the event along with the other staff members and placement coordinators.

The sessions were planned for the students as well as for the Professors, Principals, Deans, CEOs, HR Leaders, etc. The event had famous corporate and industry people as guest speakers who provided insights into 21st Century Workplace Skills. The students enthusiastically participated in the event.

Pre-Placement Talk - Knowledge Solutions India

Knowledge Solutions India hosted a Pre- Placement Talk for students of Degree Courses (BSC, BCA, BBA, BCOM and BA) on Feb 18th, 2021.

Mr. Tushar Jethani, HR Representativegave a brief introduction about Knowledge Solutions India and the job openings for the final year students as well as internship opportunities for undergraduate students across all streams. The placement process and the internship process were explained in brief. Mr. Jethani also guided the students on how to prepare for the Placement process and what a student should know while appearing for the different rounds of the process.

A total of 164 students across all streamsattended the pre-placement session.

Preplacement Talk -Northern Trust

Northern Trust conducted its first ever Virtual Preplacement Presentation on 29th January, 2021 for the Third Year Students of BBA and B.Com. The Company, reputed for its innovative investment management, asset servicing, fund administration and much more has been one of the major recruiters at St. Mira’s. This year living up to its credibility, Northern Trust impressed the students through the virtual presentation on Webex about its global expanse ranging from the key deliverables to awards won, clientele, CSR activities, benefits & incentives and selection procedure. Addressing around twenty-two students, the Company announced its Selection Procedure to be conducted in February through virtual Platform. The event was coordinated by Placement Coordinators, Ms. Kajal Jaisinghani and Ms. Jyoti Chintan.

INTERNSHIP ORIENTATION PROGRAM - 2020-21

The Placement cell of St. Mira’s College for Girls actively provides internship opportunities to students of all fields and classes. The Placement Cell encourages the students right from their first year to undergo internship programs. Placement Cell coordinators conducted the Internship Orientation Program for their respective stream during the months of October, November and December. The aim of offering internship is to give the students an opportunity for bridging the gap between academia and industry.

During the orientation the importance of experiential learning was emphasized. They were enlightened about how the hands-on practice enhances the students’ professional skills thereby increasing their employability.

The objective of the orientation program was to make students aware of the internship opportunities that they can seek through college. They were also made aware of the online internship portals where they can register and seek internships of their interest. The students were made aware of different types of internships. They were also informed about the internship selection process that most of the organizations follow. The third-year students also interacted with the first and the second-year students and shared their experiences about internship. The students from first and second years enthusiastically took part in the stream-wise orientation program. They actively clarified their doubts and were motivated to undergo internships of their interest.


IMS Webinar

A two day Webinar ‘Scale up your Aptitude’ was conducted by IMS Pune on 28th - 29th September 2020 for all the final year students of St. Mira’s College for Girls.

Two eminent faculties of IMS Mr. Anirudh Murarka (Lead Quant Mentor - IMS Pune, CAT QA 99percentiler) and Mr. Ankit Srivastava (Lead Verbal Mentor - IMS Pune, CAT VA 99percentiler) conducted the sessions with the objective to provide knowledge and insights on VA, QA and LR for Cracking various Aptitude tests like CAT, GMAT, GRE, CET, SNAP etc.

Around 200 final year students participated and learnt about logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, verbal ability and were even able to evaluate their strong and weak areas. Both the sessions were very well received by the participants. A good insight on Logical Reasoning was the key point of the webinar.

Webinar conducted by talent acquisition team of Amdocs for St Mira’s College

On the 10 th of September 2020, the talent and acquisition team of Amdocs conducted a profile building session for the students of St Mira’s College. A total of 200 students participated. The main foci for the session were: building a successful CV, boosting LinkedIn profiles, and the art of online interviews. The team of speakers consisted of Prajakta Mody, Joy Patra and Nikhil Padale. The gave insights and tips on enhancing CVs; how to build a LinkedIn profile step-by-step; and, how to present oneself in a virtual interview. As the conductors were a talent acquisition team, they gave exact information on how to present a professional profile to a company. The session was not only beneficial to students but also helpful to the faculty members. The students appreciated the session in their feedback. The activity was conducted by the Placement Cell and co-ordinated by Abhradita Chatterjee Nahvi.

UBISOFT PRE-PLACEMENT TALK REPORT

St. Mira’s College for Girls (Pune) in association with Ubisoft hosted a Pre- Placement Talk for students of Degree Courses (BSC, BCA, MSC) on 14th September 2020. The speakers were Ms. Vanita Iyer, Ms. Mayuri Saxena, and Mr.Vipin Trisal

Ubisoft Pune is one of the oldest and a fully integrated video game development studio in India. Ubisoft Pune boasts of a young and dynamic workforce of more than 1000 employees with expertise in Mobile and Console Gaming and a Quality Control team dedicated to ensuring high-quality games. They have a full- fledged automation team working towards innovating the game testing process. Ubisoft was established in Pune in the year 2008. They are the 3rd Independent Publisher Worldwide and have 35 studios on 6 Continents and have sold over 500 games. Ubisoft’s mission is to “Enrich Player’s Lives by Creating Original and Memorable Gaming Experience.” They try to give gamers the best experience with the help of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

A total of 70 students from BCS, BCA, MCS attended the pre-placement talk. Throughout the session, the students were interactive and eager to know about the company. The speakers from Ubisoft explained each point clearly. They also offered information on preparation for the various placement rounds, such as - for the technical round one needs to know about various games; how these are played?; what are the bugs in the game, and how one can resolve them? They clarified each aspect necessary for their placement drive; detailed information for each placement round was also put forward; all doubts were cleared as well, and the students were confident and assured of each round of the placement drive. Overall the session was informative, interesting, well organized.

Placement Cell- Orientation

Online Placement Orientation Sessions were conducted for final year post-graduation and under-graduation students of St. Mira’s College for Girls, Pune. Two hundred and ninety-one students across all streams attended the same. The highlights of the sessions were:-

  • Acclimatising the student community about the Placement Cell.
  • The functioning of the Placement Cell through placement coordinators and placement student representatives, where students liaison the activities.
  • An array of placement opportunities/drives available on and off-campus.
  • Yearlong placement activities focusing on enhancing skills relating to resume drafting, aptitude tests, goal setting, preparing for my first interview and soft skills to name a few conducted by professionals.
  • Internship opportunities.
  • Registration with the placement cell using an online google form.

St. Mira’s College for Girls, Pune hosted a National Webinar on “Strategies to Crack GRE/GMAT/IELTS/TOEFL & Counselling” for students of three-year Degree Courses (BA, B. COM, BBA, BCA, & BSC) in association with Imperial Overseas Education Consultant. Speakers at the Webinar were:

The Webinar covered a wide range of topics which included GRE, GMAT, TOFEL and IELTS exams, and the structures and strategies to keep in mind while appearing for them. Imperial Overseas Education Consultants also gave insights on courses available and on how they differ across countries, on the counselling offered and the importance of SOP, LOR and Resumes. They answered the queries raised and guided students on all raised concerns.

Approximately 200 participants from all across India (Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh) participated in this event. The participants were interactive throughout the webinar, as well as enthusiastic about all the polls conducted in the session. The Webinar started with a welcome note by Mr. Tauseef Ansari from Imperial Academy. Coordinator Swatee Sarwate explained the aim of webinar stating, “This national Webinar, an initiative of Placement Cell of St. Mira's College for Girls, Pune, takes into consideration today's scenario where everyone is concerned about future studies especially studying abroad” The Coordinator of the course Mrs. Stella Ambrose gave a brief note about college and its mission.

Speaker Dr. Srivathsa Vaidya (PhD- USA) said that at Imperial Overseas they invest time in nurturing young minds and providing wings to their dreams of pursuing higher education abroad. The national webinar aimed to provide the right exposure to girls at the appropriate juncture of their education that will help them translate their aspirations into academic growth. The team’s efforts were highly applauded by representatives and students alike who found the webinar informative, interesting, interactive and well organized.

Online Placement Drive for SINCRO DIGITAL

Sincro Digital, an Ansira Company (formerly CDK Digital Marketing),conducted an online Placement Drive on Dec 2, 2020.Sincro is one of the leading providers of hyper-local marketing services and technologies among automotive clients to build and maintain brand loyalty. The process was initiated by HR Associate Ms.Sarika Maniyarand coordinated by Placement Officer Ms. Deepa Krishnamurthi.

The drive began with an orientation of the company, SINCRO, followed by two rounds of interviews. One from theseven candidates from the commerce facultywho participated actively in the drive was selected and made a job offer.The recruiters were very impressed with the student’s knowledge and communication skills.

BNY MELLON CAMPUS PLACEMENT DRIVE FOR PG STUDENTS

The college conducted its first virtual placement drive in collaboration with the BNY Mellon on 23 September 2020. We added a prestigious company to our list of recruiters.

The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, commonly known as BNY Mellon, is an American multinational investment banking services holding company headquartered in New York City. BNY Mellon established a wholly-owned subsidiary in Pune in December 2004 to provide world-class support and services to the company’s global businesses. In September 2012, the operations were expanded to Chennai. Today, the Global Delivery Center (GDC) employs over 5,500 operations professionals across Pune and Chennai performing a wide range of financial services processes for BNY Mellon’s investment management and investment services businesses.

The placement drive was initiated and coordinated by Ms. Abhradita Nahvi, placement coordinator and Ms. Jyoti Chintan, Placement Officer along with Ms. Preity Bhoite, HR administrator from the company. Since the placement was conducted virtually which began with the orientation of the company by Mr. Anand Natarajan, Principal, Senior Vice-President followed by Ms. Manasi Jadhav, Talent Acquisition Specialist which gave detailed knowledge of the company and the job role and compensation package. There was a total of 4 rounds of interviews. We had 21 students who participated in the orientation, 7 qualified the aptitude test and final 3 students qualified for the final and HR round. The final round results are awaited. The Campus presentation, GD and HR discussion and the final interview were held on WebEx. There was also an online test

The overall experience and feedback of the BNY Mellon recruitment team was very positive as the need of their organization, to search for the right talent to drive its business objectives, was fulfilled by the students and the campus recruitment drive.
