Webinar on Post COVID Job Scenario and Interview Skills

On 26th June 2020, students of St. Mira’s college were offered an opportunity to address one of the major roadblocks that they were facing in their career due to COVID-19, through a webinar on “Post COVID Job Scenario and Interview Skills”

The webinar was conducted in collaboration with PIBM (Pune Institute of Business Management), by Mr. Parijat Pushp, Talent acquisition head - Mahindra insurance Brokers limited), and Mr. Ramanpreet (Chairman –PIBM) The aim of the webinar was equipping students with modern ways of presenting themselves and their resume for interviews. Mr. Pushp and Mr. Ramanpreet gave several insights on changing requirements in today’s scenario. The students were guided on the pathways to achieve the right kind of value addition to their profile.

They also highlighted the need of being aware of current affairs, knowing the game changers and encouraged the students to enhance their knowledge through reading. They emphasized the importance of JD in an interview process and knowledge of company details.

This informative session imparted wisdom which enabled the students to evaluate their understanding of interview skills and improving their strategy for job interviews. The webinar was successful in educating the students on the formation of a strong base in the career of their choice. More than 250 students of all streams of TY and PG courses attended the session through the Zoom platform for two hours. This interactive session was helpful to students to chart their career path, not only in ways to move forward with a strong focus on their career but also gave them the motivation to look at challenging times like these with positivity.


St. Mira’s College has an active Placement Cell. The cell facilitates as a coordinating body between the industry and students. The raison d'être of our institution is to assist our students in achieving their dreams of successful careers in a challenging and ever-diversifying industry.

The Placement Cell enables students to explore the world of employment and new career avenues. It also helps students in career planning through counseling wherein they hone their strengths in terms of their interests, aptitudes, and abilities so that they can choose their career more effectively.

The focus of the Placement Cell is also on the professional development by training them in employability skills such as resume building, group discussion, and interview skills which in turn helps the students to move into the desired occupation and/or apply to prestigious postgraduate and professional schools.

The Placement Cell takes the initiative to explore new career avenues for graduates and postgraduates through visits to new companies and unexplored sectors. Campus recruitments are rigorously organized every year.

Pre-placement activities as well as Placement Internships are arranged for students. The selection process generally starts with a pre-placement talk to give insights into the company profile, job profile, career path, CTC etc. This is followed by the actual selection process i.e. written tests, group discussions, interviews etc.

Webinar on "How to Crack Quantitative Aptitude for Placement"

A Session on "How to Crack Quantitative Aptitude for Placement?" was jointly organised by the Placement Cell, St. Mira's College for Girls, Pune and IMS, Pune on 12th January 2024 for all final year students. The session was conducted by Mr. Hitesh Hariramani (Chief Mentor of Pune Region with an experience of 15 years and Top 15 CAT Scorer). Around 38 students attended the session. The objective of the webinar was to provide knowledge and insights on various quantitative skills along with logical and analytical skills. Aptitude tests for competitive exams and for placements were also discussed. The techniques of 2 step methods and solving word problems were discussed during the session. Students were encouraged to try calculations on their own. The speaker explained mathematical techniques to improve Aptitude skills and problem-solving abilities. A good insight on Logical Reasoning and aptitude was the key point of the session. The session was very well received by the participants. The session was coordinated by student representative Ms. Mahek Dodeja and placement co-ordinator Dr. Deepa Krishnamurthi.

OLF PLACEMENT DRIVE

The placement drive by Open Links Foundation was held on 14th December 2023 for the B.Sc., B.B.A. (C.A.), M.Sc. and B.A. stream students. The meeting was attended by 40 students. The following dignitaries were present: CEO of OpenLinks Foundation Mr. Sanjay Dalmia, COO of OpenLinks Foundation Mr. Vishvajit Pawar and Chief of Staff, Ms. Reena Dalmia. The following points were discussed in during the drive:

  1. 1.Students were introduced to the organization and their objective— to improve the quality of education by supporting and motivating teachers.
  2. 2.Mr. Vishvajit explained, to the students, the Vinoba App which supports and motivates teachers and administrators and allows the teachers to access teaching materials and circulars.
  3. 3.A detailed description about the tasks, duties, and responsibilities for all the 4 positions were also communicated to the students.
  4. 4.A Q&A session was planned to help students understand and clarify any uncertainties. At the end of this drive a QR code to apply for the placement opportunity and the OLF WhatsApp group QR code were also shared with the students.

Workshop on “Power Trio - Resume writing, GD & PI” Placement Committee (Placement Activities) (2023-24)

A disseminative workshop on Building Employability Skills was conducted on 28 th August 2023 to apprise final year students with insights into Resume Writing, GD &;PI. The session was conducted by Dr. Pramod Kumar (Ph. D. – IIT, Mumbai), Director-ISB &;M. The outcomes of the session were prodigious and proficiency-yielding. Thorough information and understanding were delivered by the speaker to endow the students with apt learnings of the GD &;PI including emotional intelligence, attitude, and personality traits. The session was able to attain significant concerns related to their conduct in the corporate world. The session was able to procure its absolute objective of familiarizing the students with attitudes in the corporate world and also explaining the significance of building skills.

Soft Skill Session on 3 Secrets of Getting a Dream Job

A Soft Skill session titled 3 Secrets of Getting a Dream Job was facilitated by Mr. Perseus Udachia, Founder, SupeResources LLP and conducted by the Placement Cell on 11 th September 2023 from 1pm to 2.30pm. A total of 113 final year students from all the streams of St. Mira’s College for Girls participated in the event. The session included the discussion on the future of work world, 3C model of cracking the dream job and tips to be job ready. The students enthusiastically participated in the session.

"St. Mira's College for Girls signed a Letter of Understanding (LOU) with IBM Skills Build on December 5, 2023, for a one-year partnership. The primary objective of this collaboration is to enhance employment opportunities for students by cultivating soft skills and providing industry-relevant training. This program is exclusively available to students at St. Mira’s College. The program's orientation took place on September 7, 2023, where Anjali Verma, a digital skills creator for IBM Skills Build CSR BOX, provided guidance on the following key points:

1. Skills-Build Platform:Skills-Build is a digital learning platform that offers free access and focuses on industry-relevant skill development for students and job seekers aged 18 and above. Upon successful completion of specific learning activities, students can earn IBM-certified badges, which can be directly added to their LinkedIn profiles or mentioned on their CVs. The platform offers a wide range of learning activities from renowned sources like Coursera, Code Door, Udemy, Skillsoft, Google, IBM Skills Academy, and more. Access to these resources is available for free after registering on the platform through CSRBOX.

2. International Access:SkillsBuild is an internationally available online platform. Users can access its content by signing up through one of IBM's country partners.

3. Benefits of IBM SkillsBuild:The platform offers professional skill development, including industry- relevant skills and soft skills. Students can earn IBM-certified badges, get opportunities to participate in live projects, receive personalized coaching and mentoring, and access courses from various platforms without any monetary investment.

4. Support from CSRBOX:CSRBOX provides support by helping students develop online learning activities and offers training in digital tools if needed. They also amplify the impact of the program through podcasts, social media promotions, and more. Approximately 120 students attended the orientation session. Placement and Career Counseling Cell Activities - 2017

The Placement Cell of St. Mira’s College has been actively involved in bringing about a match between the requirements of various companies and the students’ interests, their abilities and potentials.

The success of the Placement Cell lies in placing the right candidates, in the right jobs, at the right time.

The first half of the academic year had many orientations, on-campus and off-campus placement drives.

Guest Lectures and Orientations

  • The Teach for India Fellowship Program is an opportunity for the youth to serve as full-time teachers to children from low-income communities in some of the nation’s most under-resourced schools. The placement cell in collaboration with the Department of English had organized an orientation on 7th August 2017for the students across all streams.
  • Edwise Overseas Education Consultants providessolutions for all international study needs. An orientation was organized on 12th September 2017 for the students across all streams where students of BA, BCom and BBA participated. 3 students, 1 from BCom and 2 from BA got an opportunity to participate in the Deakin interactive week to acquirea full scholarship for higher education at Deakin University, Australia. One of the students got selected for the 2nd round to be conducted in Delhi in June 2018.
  • The Naandi Foundation – Mahindra Pride School Skilling Project was introduced in St. Mira’s College for BBA, BCA, and B.Sc. (CS) students. Students participated in a soft skill training program with them.

Placement and Internship Drive

  • Intelligence Plus Pvt. Ltd. is an educational institute which offers internship programs and placement to graduates and undergraduates. Two of our SYBA and four of our BBA students got selected for the internship.
  • Just Being Centre provides mindfulness-based therapies. It offers internship programs and placement to graduates and undergraduates. Four of our students got selected for the internship out of which one student was offered a full-time job post completion of the TYBA examination.
  • Centre for Mental Health Services in collaboration with Teach for India, provides training and internship programs to graduate and undergraduate students. 12 SYBA students and 4 TYBA students got selected for the same.
  • Aninternship program was introduced for BA(History) and B.SC.(CS) students by the company Tick-links.
  • Placement drives of L&T Infotech,Mphasis,Deloitte, Cognizant,Syntel,and Adweb Software were conducted on-campus and off-campus.

Pre Placement Activities

“Concentrix Pre-placement Talk”

Concentrix conducted a pre-placement talk for the students at St. Mira’s College for Girls. The pre placement talk was held online on 18th January 2024. 25 students attended the talk. The following points were discussed in the meeting:

1. The recruiter first explained why students should join a BPM Company and how Concentrix helps brands to grow, across the world.
2. The recruiter shared insights on what the students should prepare for the interview and its4 step recruitment process which included Data Sourcing, Online assessment, Video Interviews and E-Offers.
3. They believe in the ideology “Our People Comes First” and provide the following facilities for the well-being of their employees: Doctor-on-Call, Mind Matters, Wellbeing (Virtually), Talent Edge, Good Cheer, Leisure Pursuits, Emergency Loan Facility.
4. They also gave a CSR Overview in which they talked about the various initiatives they took such as Winnie Sun Scholarship Program, Inauguration of Concentrix’ sponsored Kitchen in Uttarakhand, Mission 100K Trees, Science Wing Inauguration in Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School, Gurugram.

Report on webinar on -The Future Of Cyber Security : Navigating Trends And Opportunities’

The webinar was organized by the Placement cell in collaboration with Infoshare Systems on career guidance on the topic ‘The Future Of Cyber security : Navigating Trends And Opportunities’ on 9th February 2024 at 4pm. The session was attended by 110 students of TYBSC(CS),TYBBA(CA),MSC(CS),SYBSC(CS).

The session started with Ms. Vaibhavi Gandhi brief on how hackers hack systems by showing a live demo to the students and outlining the importance of Cyber Security. The following points were discussed in the meeting:

1. Ms. Vaibhavi explained to the students about the ‘IT security and its pillars ’ as well as the responsibilities of a Penetration Tester.

2. Mr. Shiva explained to the students about the SOC analysis - its operations and its benefits. He also addressed the issue of Cyber Threat and the impact of Data Breaches.

3. Mr. Raju Karudi described the Audit and Compliance team roles. He talked about the rising issue of how fake videos are made with the help of AI and how we can take action if we are stuck in such a situation by contacting the Cyber Security Police. Mr. Raju also gave a brief description about the career path and opportunities available in the field of Cyber Security.

4. Ms. Pallavi Pagar concluded the webinar by talking about the SPARK training program where she explained the objective of the program, eligibility criteria as well as the 2 months internship program.

“SAP Pre-placement Talk”

SAP Labs had introduced a Scholar Program for students at St. Mira’s College for Girls. The Scholar@SAP program with BITS Pilani is a highly regarded program that provides students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of enterprise resource planning (ERP). The preplacement talk for students was held online on 16th October 2023. The following points were discussed in the students briefing: The students were given a brief introduction about SAP and the career opportunities offered by SAP Labs. The students were then explained about the 4-year journey program in which the students will be first selected based on the campus recruitment, after which they will be trained and will get a M. Tech in Software Engineering degree from BITS Pilani. During this learning phase of 2 years students will get a CTC of Rs 25,000. After 2 years of training students will be employed for a full-time job while completing their M. Tech degree. The recruiter then displayed the career progression chart to explain the position the students will start working at and how they will get promoted based on their skills and hard work. Scholar benefits, compensation and other benefits which will be provided were also discussed. In this information about the pre-onboarding learning, sponsorship for M. Tech from BITS Pilani, SAP courses, hackathons, Cost of Investment, stipend, and insurance care for life was introduced. The recruiter shared insights on what the students should prepare for the interview and the 4-step recruitment process which consisted of online assessment, 2 technical rounds, HR Discussion round and offer confirmation and Documentation. As per eligibility criteria five students of TYBSC attended the same.

Online Placement Drive for SINCRO DIGITAL

Sincro Digital, an Ansira Company (formerly CDK Digital Marketing),conducted an online Placement Drive on Dec 2, 2020.Sincro is one of the leading providers of hyper-local marketing services and technologies among automotive clients to build and maintain brand loyalty. The process was initiated by HR Associate Ms.Sarika Maniyarand coordinated by Placement Officer Ms. Deepa Krishnamurthi.

The drive began with an orientation of the company, SINCRO, followed by two rounds of interviews. One from theseven candidates from the commerce facultywho participated actively in the drive was selected and made a job offer.The recruiters were very impressed with the student’s knowledge and communication skills.

BNY MELLON CAMPUS PLACEMENT DRIVE FOR PG STUDENTS

The college conducted its first virtual placement drive in collaboration with the BNY Mellon on 23 September 2020. We added a prestigious company to our list of recruiters.

The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, commonly known as BNY Mellon, is an American multinational investment banking services holding company headquartered in New York City. BNY Mellon established a wholly-owned subsidiary in Pune in December 2004 to provide world-class support and services to the company’s global businesses. In September 2012, the operations were expanded to Chennai. Today, the Global Delivery Center (GDC) employs over 5,500 operations professionals across Pune and Chennai performing a wide range of financial services processes for BNY Mellon’s investment management and investment services businesses.

The placement drive was initiated and coordinated by Ms. Abhradita Nahvi, placement coordinator and Ms. Jyoti Chintan, Placement Officer along with Ms. Preity Bhoite, HR administrator from the company. Since the placement was conducted virtually which began with the orientation of the company by Mr. Anand Natarajan, Principal, Senior Vice-President followed by Ms. Manasi Jadhav, Talent Acquisition Specialist which gave detailed knowledge of the company and the job role and compensation package. There was a total of 4 rounds of interviews. We had 21 students who participated in the orientation, 7 qualified the aptitude test and final 3 students qualified for the final and HR round. The final round results are awaited. The Campus presentation, GD and HR discussion and the final interview were held on WebEx. There was also an online test

The overall experience and feedback of the BNY Mellon recruitment team was very positive as the need of their organization, to search for the right talent to drive its business objectives, was fulfilled by the students and the campus recruitment drive.
