Alumni Meet 2018
26th January 2018 was a special day for many reasons. This year our alumni came back to join us for flag hoisting. After that, the St Mira’s Alumni Association was formally constituted in a meeting in the AV Room.
Rupal Gesota of the 1995 batch proposed that Kashmira Shah of the 1980 batch be President and this was seconded by Soniya Chavan from the general body. This was followed by a small video where Kashmira introduced herself. It was then proposed that Asha Panikar of the 2004 batch be Vice President and it was seconded by Meenakshi Balkawde. Asha Panikar addressed the group on the importance of networking and then proposed that Rupal Gesota be the secretary which was seconded by Pooja Tank. They proposed that Gauri Malgi the registrar of St Mira’s College who is an alumnus of the 1992 batch would be treasurer and this was seconded by Jaya Nagrani. Rupal Gesota introduced herself and spoke on what it meant to be a "Miraite".
The other founder members are Elizabeth Kanade, Heshma Daryani and Treta Lulla. Many registered as life members and some as annual members. The association will be formally registered and managed by the alumni themselves.
Once the formalities were completed, the fun and games began. There was a round of Housie organized by Rupal with many prizes to be won which were sponsored by Treta. This was followed by high tea, laughter and memories.
Activities
St. Mira’s College Alumni Association- “Placement Orientation” (2022-23)
St Mira’s college alumni association in association with “Vartemis Consulting” conducted an orientation session for the opportunities in HR field for the students of college on Saturday, 4th January 2023.
Ms Sofiya T, a Senior Recruiter from Vartemis Consulting, enlightened the students with the different career options they can choose after their graduation and ways to achieve those. Ms Sofiya is also college alumnus who conducted a similar session previously and absorbed some of the students into Vartemis Consulting.
The session was organized in the Audio Visual Room and was attended by students from Arts, Science and BCA section.
“Career Guidance Session on Exploring Soaring Careers in Human Resource” - St. Mira’s College Alumni Association
St. Mira’s College Alumni Association in collaboration with VARTEMIS organized a Career Guidance Session on exploring soaring careers in Human Resource on 14th June 2022 for the Third Year Students across all streams in the college.
The session was presided over by Sophia T, a BA (English) Alumna 2009, presently employed with Vartemis as a Senior Recruiter. Vartemis is looking out for fresh graduates for full time positions. She communicated with the students and informed them about corporate life, its requirements and benefits obtained. Around 30 students participated and expressed their interest. The Placement Cell also joined the session and will take the placement initiative further.
"St Mira's College Alumni Association - 2-Days Covid 19 Vaccination Drive ."
As a way of accelerating the national drive for vaccination in the Covid -19 pandemic, the St Mira’s College Alumni Association conducted a Two-Day Vaccination Drive in association with Pune Municipal Corporation on 10th and 11th February 2022. The Vaccination camp was organized on the college campus from 11 am onwards for the students of St. Mira’s College aged between 15 to 18 years.
This initiative was greatly supported by the PMC Corporator, Shree Rajendra Wagaskar and Mrs VanitaWagaskar. A competent team of 6 medical professionals took charge of the vaccination process. Across 2 days of the vaccination programme a total of 238 beneficiaries availed of the facility. Students from Arts, Commerce and Science streams were vaccinated with the first or second dose of Covaxin.
Many faculty members of the college and their family members also took the vaccines under Staff Welfare initiative. The College office provided able support with sevikas for co-ordination and refreshments for the medical team.
The event commenced on 10th February at 11 am in the presence of Principal-In-Charge Dr Jaya Rajgopalan, Vice Principals Dr Shalini Iyer and Mrs Suvarna Deolankar. College alumna, Mrs Prachi Alhat, a PMC Corporator, was also present; she helped in initiating the vaccination drive in the college. The entire event was monitored and handled by the Alumni Association Secretary Ms RupalGesota with the support of Alumni College Committee Coordinator Dr. Dimple Buche and members Mrs Smita Borkar and Mrs Amrita Basu.
To make the entire vaccination process effortless and seamless, the data was collected from students needing vaccination through google forms and were guided on both pre- and post-vaccination requirements. Through this noble initiative, the Alumni Association of College has ensured the progress of education by providing safe and secure vaccinations to students and faculty members.
3 DAY ALUMNI WORKSHOP BY ALUMNA PARICHE MEHTA AND DIVYA KUKREJA ON MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLES 101, AN ENDEAVOUR FOR SELF EMPLOYMENT
A 3-day workshop on makeup and hair styles was conducted by Alumnae, Parachi Mehta (BBA Alumna, 2016-19) and Divya Kukreja(BBA Alumna, 2015-18) between January 31st and February 2nd, 2022,under the aegis of St. Mira’s College Alumni Association,as their contribution to the alma materto generate Self Employment.
The workshop witness edanenthusiastic response and received 288 registrations.This workshop was conducted on the ZOOM meeting platform and was simultaneously broadcasted live via the Alumni Association’s Facebookpage.The first day of the workshop was held on January 31st between 4-5.15 pm.The session began with a warm welcome by our teachers, followed by an enthusiastic introduction by co-organizer Udita Dodeja.Divya Kukreja is a professional makeup artist,and sheen light ened the at tendees with important information regarding skin care.Her enthusiasm and knowledge helped the attendees gaininsight into the need for a consistent skin care routine and the different products to be usedaccording to different skin types. Next, our wonderful professional hairstylist on board,ParicheMehta, enlightened the audience on the importance of hair care. Pariche demonstrated thecorrect way to care for hair and suggested effective tips and products that one could use to get that lusciousmane they have always dreamedof .Ms. Rupal Gesota, Secretary, Alumni Association graced the first day of the session and lauded the initiative.
Day 2 of these sesion was conducted by Pariche Mehta and Divya Kukreja who demonstrate dan “Office and Professional” makeup and hairstyle look on the model Priyanka.Day 3 of these sesion involved the extremely talented alumnae,creating and demonstrating at raditional makeup and hairstyle look on model Saloni Gangani of TYBBA.Both the alumna ewereextremely kind and forthcoming in answering the numerous questions posed by the attentive and enthusiastic audience throughout the 3days.These sesion was concluded on a positive note of students asking for Courses, Internship and skill to liaison with clients. The Alumnae provided them with information on Certificate Courses on Makeup and Makeover and promised to induct any student under their tutelage and take them along with them for subsequent work. The Certificates of Appreciation were presented virtually to Pariche Mehta and Divya Kukreja. Mrs. Gauri Mhalgi, treasurer graced the last days session and requested the alumnae to take up more such initiatives and help in strengthening the Alumni Association further.
Department of Business Economics and Banking: Guest Lecture ‘Careers Opportunities with Reserve Bank of India’
A Guest Lecture was organized by the Department of Business Economics and Banking, St. Mira’s College on the topic ‘Careers Opportunities with RBI’ on Oct. 16, 2021 at 4pm on Google Meet Platform. The Guest Speaker was our Alumna, Ms. Nanda Choudhari, Assistant Manager, Reserve bank of India, posted at Bengaluru. Ms Choudhari completed her B.Com in the year 2012. She has over eight years working experience at RBI now.
Ms. Nanda Choudhari elaborated in details about the various opportunities at the Reserve Bank of India. She discussed the selection procedure, the various components of the entrance examination held for various posts along with the Interview Process. She also provided information on the salary structures , allowances and benefits for the different positions at RBI.
Ms. Choudhari shared her experiences as a Young Research Scholar at RBI and how the faculty at St. Mira’s encouraged and supported her in applying for the RBI Scheme. She stated that her selection as a Young Research Scholar was a turning point where she started her preparation for various openings at the RBI. She pointed out that the course curriculum at St. Mira’s College as an autonomous college kept her abreast with developments in the banking system in India. Ms. Choudhari reiterated that hard work and perseverance is the key to success.
The Lecture was well attended by the SY and TY BCOM students of Banking and Finance specialization.
Department of Business Economics & Banking: Interaction with Alumna
The Department of Business Economics and Banking organized an Interaction session with our Alumna- Education, Career and Beyond. Our Alumna, Ms. Pooja Sakate was the speaker at the occasion. She finished her BCOM and MCOM in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Ms. Pooja now works as Cluster Manager in the legal Department, Bajaj Finance Ltd. Pune.
Ms. Pooja shared the difficult path that she has walked to reach where she is today. Pursuing education was not very easy for her as her mother was a single parent. The times were difficult she admitted, however, her mother insisted on completing education. She said she is grateful to her mother for her perseverance. Ms. Pooja stated that she was grateful to two of her acquaintances who supported her financially through her education.
Ms. Pooja said she was proud to be a Miraite; she thanked the faculty and the library staff for the support all though her graduation and post-graduation. She was grateful to the college authorities by giving her the advantage of the Earn While you Learn Scheme.
Ms. Pooja said she always wanted to work with a Bank, as she had specialized in Banking and Finance. She is happy today as she works in the financial sector. Her first job in an insurance company exposed her to the legal field. She admitted that she made her attempts to appear for the CS examination but failed to qualify. A little disappointed, she followed the advice of a senior colleague who asked her to pursue a Law degree instead. Ms. Pooja has successfully completed her LLB in 2020 and is now a lawyer handling corporate affairs for the company she works with.
Ms. Pooja Sakate stressed on the importance of pursuing post-graduation as due importance is given to higher studies; she said that it is important to explore opportunities while one is working and acquire added qualifications to move higher up in ones’ career.
The Interaction with Alumna Ms. Pooja on Education, Career and Beyond was emotional, motivating as well as inspiring for everyone.
